Spanish forms part of our large, thriving Modern Languages department, led by specialist staff who share their expertise and enthusiasm for continental culture inside and outside of the classroom.
In Spanish, students immerse themselves in the world’s second most widely spoken native language through a range of modern digital and audio materials, and through interactive classroom discussion. Students are introduced to Spanish in Year 7, where all students benefit from two lessons of Spanish per fortnight, alongside two lessons of German and three of French. In Year 8 students are asked to indicate two preferred languages to continue studying and they receive four lessons per fortnight for each of these.
All students study at least one language in Key Stage 4 with Italian available as an additional option for our more able linguists. We offer A-Level courses in Spanish, French and German.
We encourage all of our Spanish students to immerse themselves in Spanish and Latin American culture and support this with a popular Year 9 visit to Andalusia and our Year 10 Exchange to Northern Spain.
