KS4 Specification - AQA

The Biology Department at West Kirby Grammar School consists of five teachers, who are all biology specialists. At Key Stage 3, students study Biology for one lesson a week and study a variety of topics including cells, tissues and organs, reproduction, respiration, photosynthesis and earth and the environment, as well as developing their practical and analytical skills. All of our curriculum is designed with our HPL philosophy in mind and students develop their interest and enthusiasm in the Biology of all that is around them. Students can choose to either study separate or combined sciences at GCSE. A-level Biology has remained a very popular subject and has maintained consistently high numbers.

The Science Department has 12 fully-equipped laboratories, with state-of-the-art and fully interactive technology. We offer a large number of activities to enrich our curriculum, including field trips to Hilbre Island and Church Island, Year 7 Science Club, Operation Theatre Live, Biology Olympiad, support sessions for students in all key stages and Science Evening lectures.
