Admissions
West Kirby has a successful Sixth Form where students achieve outstanding results, receive excellent advice and guidance and enjoy first-class pastoral support.
Applications are welcomed from both female and male students who studied at other schools for their GCSEs. Approximately 40 -50 new students join West Kirby's Sixth Form each year and there are around 60 male students in the Sixth Form at present. New students flourish and enjoy studying at West Kirby. They are elected to be school leaders and participate fully in the wider life of the school.
We look after new students and ensure that they are well supported in their first few weeks in the school. The induction programme is an exciting and fun way to be introduced to Sixth Form life at West Kirby and a great way to make new friends.
Entry Requirements
Students must achieve a Grade 4 or better in Maths and a Grade 4 or better in English (Language or Literature).
As the majority of our Sixth Form courses are A-level and academic in nature, most subjects require a Grade 6 in order to gain entry to the course, although you should refer to the Course Outlines Booklet for further details as these differ from course to course.
Please click here to see our Sixth Form Course Guide for all subject entry requirements.
How to Apply
You can apply online or alternatively, if you would prefer to apply on a paper form, please contact office@wkgs.net to request one. Please note that this is only for external applicants. Students already in Year 11 at West Kirby should follow the instructions they have been given.
Which courses do you offer?
WKGS is proud to offer 29 courses in the Sixth Form. This is considerably more than many schools with sixth forms. We do not prescribe option blocks in advance as these are constructed shortly after our February deadline for applications, allowing us to accommodate the vast majority of student preferences.
How many subjects can I study at WKGS?
Sixth Form students may choose to study three or four subjects in our Sixth Form. Students taking three subjects will typically complete an additional Extended Project Qualification on a topic of their choosing. More information can be found on the curriculum page.
Open Evening

Closing Date
The closing date for applications to Sixth Form is Thursday 16 February 2022. However, we suggest you get your application to us as soon as possible as we start to invite students to WKGS to offer individual advice and guidance regarding subject choices from January onwards.
