KS4 Specification - AQA
Our aim is to produce young designers who are skilled and ready to take their place in an ever-changing technology-driven society. We strive to create a distinctive and dynamic partnership between students and staff in the department through our level of care, concern and professionalism.
To achieve our aims, we ensure:
- We don’t teach students or children, we teach young designers
- Creativity and problem solving are at the heart of everything that we do
- Our curriculum allows students to become more resilient, well rounded, independent, open minded and confident
- Our curriculum adapts to meet changes to style, trend and technology whilst providing exciting and enjoyable experiences.
At Key Stage 3, students study Design and Technology for two lessons a week and rotate between the different subject areas: Product Design, Textiles Technology and Food & Health Eating. We offer GCSE courses in: Product Design, Food and Nutrition and Textiles. We also offer A-levels in Product Design, Textiles Technology and Food Science and Nutrition.
The Design and Technology department is housed in a purpose built building consisting of six specialist subject rooms. The building has two industrial kitchens, two Product Design workshops and one Textiles suite. We are delighted to have recently opened a fantastic new CAD/CAM/ICT suite complete with 3D Printing and Laser cutting facilities, which is providing cutting-edge technology to offer students industry-standard experiences.

A-Level Religious Studies study day to Cambridge University
The Religious Studies department took a group of Year 12 students to Cambridge University to attend an A Level Religious Studies Study Day at the Faculty of Divinity. The guest speaker, Libby Ahluwalia, is a teacher, a syllabus developer, an examiner trainer and author of several acclaimed GCSE and A level textbooks. The event provided advice and support for students with an interest in theology, religion, and philosophy of religion who may be considering studying these subjects at university, particularly being beneficial for students aiming for high (A/A*) grades.
