Shirley Hughes 1927 - 2022

The school community wishes to pay tribute to our former student, acclaimed author and illustrator Shirley Hughes who has died aged 94.  Shirley attended the school from 1935 to 1943.  Her novel ‘Whistling in the Dark’ was inspired by her time here and growing up on the Wirral.

She lived directly behind the school on Meols Drive in Easedale House, which was gifted by the family to the school in the early 1980s and is now a Sixth Centre.  Her work and success continues to be an inspiration to students today many of whom grew up loving her stories.
