A-level Results 2019

West Kirby Grammar School is celebrating; yet again results are outstanding with more than 70% of all grades awarded being A*-B or equivalent.

While nationally A* and A grades have fallen to the lowest level for a decade, at West Kirby the number of top grades has increased, with 39% of all grades being equivalent to A* and A. In fact 20% of students achieving at least one A* grade or equivalent in their results. Five students take up Oxbridge places this year, including courses in Natural Sciences, Veterinary Science and Medicine at Cambridge, while at Oxford students will pursue their studies in Engineering and Law.

Over 80% of grades in PE, Product Design, Politics, Psychology, Further Maths, English Language and Art were A*-B, while the highly esteemed A* grade was achieved by 15% of students in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Computing and Product Design. In fact 11% of all A-level grades achieved at West Kirby were A*.

Many students also completed the Cambridge Pre-University course Global Perspectives and Independent Research, and close to 40% of students achieved a distinction, equivalent to grade A*/A. Our focus on a range of additional activities in the Sixth Form alongside A-levels means that students not only achieve highly academically, but also develop into well-rounded young adults, ready to pursue a range of future career paths and educational opportunities. These results are a testament not just to the hard work of the students, but also to the staff, whose commitment to ensuring that students achieve their potential in all areas of their education is incredible.

Students’ destinations are diverse and exciting! In addition to Medicine at Liverpool, History at King’s College and Maths at Aberystwyth, students are pursuing a vast array of courses including Physiotherapy and Sports Science at Leeds Beckett, Accountancy, Pharmacy and Nursing at Nottingham, and Law and Geography at Lancaster. Others will study Aerospace Engineering at Manchester and Biology and Graphic Design at Leeds. Neuroscience and Film Production at Westminster University, Product Design at Falmouth and Geography at Keele add to the vast array of courses that have been chosen.

Continuing to offer one of the broadest curriculum offers locally, students at West Kirby achieved highly in Latin, Spanish, German and French, along with three different Art subjects including Textiles, Graphics and Fine Art. Astonishingly, every student who studied Computer Science at West Kirby has chosen to pursue this at university. Destinations include St. Andrews through a graduate apprenticeship scheme, Liverpool John Moores for Computer Forensics, Staffordshire, Salford and Leeds plus others.
