Plans for Reopening from Tuesday 4 January

  • Tuesday 4 January - Staff Training Day with students only attending site at their allocated time for asymptomatic testing (see timetable below).
  • Wednesday 5 January - All students on site as normal with asymptomatic testing programme continuing for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students will temporarily leave lessons for the test and then return afterwards assuming a negative result.
  • Thursday 6 January - Onwards - All students must attend site unless they have tested positive and been asked to isolate. Onsite asymptomatic testing will cease and home tests will be issued.

Following the government’s announcement regarding the return to school after the Christmas break, West Kirby Grammar School will be opening to all students from Wednesday 5 January, but we will be inviting some students into school for specific asymptomatic testing appointments on Tuesday 4 January.

By opening the site to some students solely for testing on Tuesday 4 January, we hope to be able to open to all students as expected on Wednesday 5 January while also offering all students 1 LFD test. All students will be able to access the site from Wednesday 5 January. Full details of this can be found in the document titled ‘Arrangements for Rapid Asymptomatic Testing’.

Please note that the asymptomatic testing programme is voluntary, as outlined in the ‘Arrangements for Rapid Asymptomatic Testing’ document. A negative result is not required to return on Wednesday 5 January, but a positive result will require a 10-day period of isolation if confirmed by a PCR test (or 7-day isolation with a negative LFD on days 6 and 7).

The timetable for testing is included in the ‘Arrangements for Rapid Asymptomatic Testing’. Please adhere to this programme. If you have more than one child at the school, all may attend at the time of the first household appointment.

In addition to the systems in place for managing cases from the Autumn Term, the government has now announced that all students in Y7 - 13 must wear a face covering in schools, including during lessons unless medically exempt for a short period of time (until January 26). This will come into place for WKGS from Wednesday 5 January. Please refer to the ‘Contingency Plans for Outbreaks’ for full details of expectations in January and how the school would handle any further cases.

We will continue to ask students to continue to follow good hygiene practices such as regularly washing hands and ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ along with ensuring all occupied spaces are well ventilated. Please also take a few moments to ensure that you are familiar with our flowchart for managing cases of coronavirus as there are some significant changes. Please also note that the '10-day isolation' mentioned in this document can be reduced to a 7-day isolation if negative LFD tests can be shown for days 6 and 7. In addition, while isolation for 'close contacts' who are under the age of 18 or double-vaccinated is not required, daily LFD tests must now be taken 7 days to avoid isolation.

We hope everyone is able to enjoy their time over the Christmas break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the school site in the New Year. We appreciate your support with this and ask that you please take the time to review all the attached information with your children/wards to ensure a smooth return for all.
