KS4 Specification - Edexcel
German forms part of our large, thriving Languages department, led by specialist staff who share their expertise and enthusiasm for continental culture inside and outside of the classroom.
In German, students immerse themselves in Europe’s second most widely spoken native language through a range of modern digital and audio materials, and through interactive classroom discussion. In Year 7, students are allocated 2 languages out of French, German and Spanish which they study for 3 periods per fortnight. Alongside this, they also study Classical Civilisation/Latin for 2 periods per fortnight. In Year 8 students are asked to indicate two preferred languages from the three studied in Year 7 to continue studying, and they receive four lessons per fortnight for each of these.
All students study at least one language in Key Stage 4 with Italian available as an additional option for our more passionate linguists. We offer A-Level courses in German, French, Latin and Spanish.
We encourage all of our German students to immerse themselves in Germany’s culture and support this with an exchange programme, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.

We are delighted with the response to last week's Wirral Walk and the money raised for the charity we support in Malawi. We are especially grateful to Moreton based company, @Typhoo_tea who made a very generous donation. Typhoo source a lot of their tea from suppliers in Malawi. https://t.co/dcZ6cABlrP

Well done to all our #WKGSCommunity who took part in today's Wirral Walk, completing the 12 mile round trip from West Kirby to Heswall to raise money for development projects in the Karonga District of northern Malawi. £1400 has been raised so far. Amazing efforts all round. https://t.co/4eQW2AMrkC
Wirral Way Walk – our school community together helping others
Congratulations to our WKGS Community who came together to complete the 12 mile walk along the Wirral Way from West Kirby to Heswall and back, to raise money for development projects in the Karonga District of northern Malawi. Since 2003 our sponsored walks, has raised money for our special overseas project - school building work, making a difference in over five rural schools in China, building two from scratch in very poor rural areas. Several hundred students from WKGS have now been to China to see where the money was spent. We have moved our fundraising to support new projects in rural Malawi. Funds have been sent to Malawi to help child education and female empowerment. We have funded the building of new sanitation blocks and water supplies for three maternity centres where before there were none and pregnant women had to go to the toilet in a nearby field. This work is directly linked to development concepts that all students have studied at all key stages of the geography curriculum.

Year 12 visit to the Liverpool UCAS fair and Edge Hill Universit
As part of their Summer Programme, for Year 12, visited the UCAS fair at Liverpool Exhibition Centre followed by a trip to Edge Hill University to get a snapshot of life at a campus university. The UCAS fair gave students the opportunity to visit different University stalls to discuss open days and the courses they offer. At Edge Hill students were given a campus tour, attended a taster lecture and chatted to current students about Higher Education and student life. An informative and enjoyable day for all!
