West Kirby Grammar School is conveniently located, being close to the centre of West Kirby and West Kirby Railway Station, with services available from Liverpool and Chester.

Many of our students travel to school via train, but there are also conveniently located public bus stops, along with specially provided school service buses.

West Kirby Grammar School is just a five-minute walk from West Kirby Train Station. At peak times, Merseyrail services run as frequently as every 15 minutes, with Liverpool stations only around 35 minutes away. The rail network also provides easy access from across Wirral and beyond, making train travel a convenient option for many students.

Travel Support for Eligible Students in Years 7 to 11

Financial support may be available for eligible students in Years 7 to 11 who travel on school-operated bus services.

For 2026/27, travel support will be assessed using the Free School Meal and Pupil Premium information already held by the school for the 2025/26 academic year. This is because national Free School Meal eligibility rules are changing from September 2026.

School Operated Bus Services

Wallasey - C3 (operated solely by WKGS)

Chester, Ellesmere Port and North Wales - W1, W3, W5, W6, W7

A1 Willaston, Neston and Parkgate areas

A number of bus services are provided by West Kirby Grammar School in conjunction with Calday Grange Grammar School. These buses provide transport for those students who live in Wallasey, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Willaston, Neston and Parkgate areas and North Wales.

The annual cost for a pass for 2026/27 is:

  • Wallasey services (C3 bus)  is £880
  • Chester / Ellesmere Port / N Wales (W buses)  is £1,612
  • Willaston, Neston and Parkgate areas  is £901

The annual fee is determined at the start of each year based upon the number of students using the services. The cost of the pass is non-refundable. Payment is made via Calday Grange Grammar School via Shopify.  The exception to this is the Wallasey C3 service with payments made by Direct Debit to West Kirby Grammar School.  The payment for these passes may be made in full or by instalments.

Please note that seats on the bus services are available on a first come first served basis and bus passes will be sent direct to parents prior to the start of the academic year. Replacement passes are available at a cost of £5.
