KS4 Specification - Edexcel
The Mathematics Department consists of nine skilled teachers who all share a love of Mathematics and strive to instil their passion for the subject into the students, giving them the skills they need to succeed in the wider world.
The department is equipped with some of the latest technology. All classrooms make use of interactive displays to make learning come to life and software such as Autograph is used to help mathematical concepts and relate them to real life. In addition to academic study, we provide additional enrichment and support opportunities for our students.
These include:
- Puzzle Club
- UKMT Junior, Intermediate and Senior challenges
- UKMT Team Challenge
- Maths Support - twice weekly drop-in sessions
Students study Mathematics for four lessons per week at Key Stage 3, studying:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio and Proportion
- Geometry and Measures
- Probability
- Statistics
These lay the foundations for GCSE studies and beyond.
At GCSE, students follow a two-year, linear course where 99% of students achieved grades 9-4 and 63% achieved grades 9-7. Our highest achievers are also given the opportunity to complete a GCSE Further Mathematics qualification
A-level students study a new syllabus which covers Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics. Again, our most able students can study additional content in order to achieve A-level Further Mathematics and students achieve highly with 74% of Mathematics students obtaining a grade A*-B and 88% of Further Mathematics students achieving the same.
