KS4 Specification - Edexcel
German forms part of our large, thriving Modern Languages department, led by specialist staff who share their expertise and enthusiasm for continental culture inside and outside of the classroom.
In German, students immerse themselves in Europe’s second most widely spoken native language through a range of modern digital and audio materials, and through interactive classroom discussion. Students are introduced to German in Year 7, where all students benefit from two lessons of German per fortnight, alongside two lessons of Spanish and three of French. In Year 8 students are asked to indicate two preferred languages to continue studying and they receive four lessons per fortnight for each of these.
All students study at least one language in Key Stage 4 with Italian available as an additional option for our more able linguists. We offer A-Level courses in German, French and Spanish.
We encourage all of our German students to immerse themselves in Germany’s culture and support this with an exchange programme, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.
