KS4 Specification - AQA
The Art Department at West Kirby Grammar School consists of three teachers, who are all subject specialists. At Key Stage 3, students study art for one lesson a week in Year 7 and 8.
In Year 7, pupils develop their artistic knowledge using a sketchbook and learning skills in drawing, colour theory and painting. In Year 8, students have the opportunity to explore themes through art textiles, graphics and fine art.
We offer three GCSE courses of Fine Art, Textile Design and Graphic Communication, which are popular option choices. These courses offer the development of specialist skills, which can lead to building knowledge and skills for design related careers.
At A- level, we offer Fine Art, Art Textiles and Graphic Communication with all subjects developing work through a coursework portfolio.
A personal investigative study enables students to develop their own interests at A-level.

A-Level Religious Studies study day to Cambridge University
The Religious Studies department took a group of Year 12 students to Cambridge University to attend an A Level Religious Studies Study Day at the Faculty of Divinity. The guest speaker, Libby Ahluwalia, is a teacher, a syllabus developer, an examiner trainer and author of several acclaimed GCSE and A level textbooks. The event provided advice and support for students with an interest in theology, religion, and philosophy of religion who may be considering studying these subjects at university, particularly being beneficial for students aiming for high (A/A*) grades.
