KS4 Specification - AQA
The department consists of two specialist teachers. Religious Studies is a popular subject at West Kirby for GCSE and A-level and examination results are very good, being above the average for similar schools.
At Key Stage 3, learning about the application of religious principles to ethical issues as well as philosophical ideas helps students to develop an awareness of religion in the wider world. Visits to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, a mosque, synagogue and Buddhist temple support the curriculum, as does an in-house Holocaust day. The department also runs a four day trip to Auschwitz, open to up to 30 Year 12 students.
In addition to this, the department co-ordinates whole school initiatives such as Amnesty campaigns, the Rotary club Christmas box appeal , the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and emergency fund raising appeals as they arise.
