KS4 Specification - Edexcel
French forms part of our large, thriving Languages department, led by specialist staff who share their expertise and enthusiasm for continental culture inside and outside of the classroom.
In French, students immerse themselves in the language of our closet neighbour through a range of modern digital and audio materials, and through interactive classroom discussion. In Year 7, students are allocated 2 languages out of French, German and Spanish which they study for 3 periods per fortnight. Alongside this, they also study Classical Civilisation/Latin for 2 periods per fortnight. In Year 8 students are asked to indicate two preferred languages from the three studied in Year 7 to continue studying, and they receive four lessons per fortnight for each of these.
All students study at least one language in Key Stage 4 with Italian available as an additional option for our more passionate linguists. We also offer A-Level courses in French, Spanish, Latin and German.
We encourage all of our French students to immerse themselves in French culture and support this with a popular Year 8 trip to Normandy, and through extracurricular activities such as the Year 7 French Club.
