Personal development opportunities can be found in every subject, but at WKGS students also take part in a structured programme beyond the academic curriculum. In Key Stages 3 and 4, students have timetabled Personal Development lessons where they explore a wide range of topics including PSHE, Citizenship and personal growth, helping them develop confidence, character and the knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world. At Key Stage 4, this provision is further enriched through Global Perspectives, which broadens students’ understanding of global issues, diversity and their role as active citizens. In Key Stage 5, students continue their development through dedicated Skills for Life lessons, focusing on independence, future pathways, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.

The structure of Personal Development provision is as follows:

Year 7 – 1 lesson a week

Year 8 – 1 lesson a week

Year 9 – 1 lesson a week

Year 10 – 2 lessons a week (including Global Perspectives)

Year 11 – 2 lessons a week (including Global Perspectives)

Year 12 – Skills for Life Personal Development Day and 2 lessons a week

Year 13 – 2 lessons a week (Skills for Life)
