Year 7 Chess Suprema!
WKGS congratulates Nethuli, one of our Year 7 pupils, on winning the U12 Girls championship in Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge - MEGAFINAL.
Over 40,000 school children participate in Delancey chess challenge in every year. The Tournament runs in 4 stages where the best players in the region can go through MEGAFINAL and skills permitting, to the North/South GIGAFINAL and National TERAFINAL. This Tournament is treated as one of the biggest chess tournaments in the world. The Best performing boy and girl in all age group sections will receive a trophy and the title of SUPREMA (Girl Player) and SUPREMO (Boy Player) in MEGAFINAL stage.
Nethuli competed in the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge MEGAFINAL for Cheshire, Manchester & North Wales region at Cheadle Hulme School in Cheadle Hulme on the 21st of May 2017.
Though Nethuli is an U12 player, she was playing in the section U12-U18 due to lack of girls players within the section. The section U12-U18 is a very tough section as there are players with very high skills of different age categories and majority of them are boys from the region.
Nethuli played her best to become the best performing girl in U12 age category and was awarded with the Title ‘SUPREMA U12’ in Cheshire, Manchester & North Wales region and a Trophy. This best performance of Nethuli secured her place to compete in the next level of the Tournament Northern GIGAFINAL which will be held in July 2017.
We wish Nethuli every success in this impressive championship.
