Furniss House is named after Dorothy Furniss, an ex-student, Chair of Governors of the School for many years and founding member of the Old Girls’ Association. It is one of the newer two Houses, created in 1987 to accommodate the increasing number of students in the School. There are 194 students in Furniss House, our house colour is purple and our house mascot is Dotty the Emu (there are very few large purple toys out there!)
Furniss House is particularly proud of its friendly, welcoming nature and fun, positive approach to every competition. We enjoy competing in all house events whether or not we win. Last year we won the Year 7 Cross Country, Year 7 Netball, Junior Tennis and Senior Hockey competitions and gained the most points overall to win the House Cup. This year has started well with Furniss winning the Senior Netball and coming second in the fiercely contested House Music competition.
The Head of House, Dr Carrick, has taught Biology at West Kirby Grammar School for many years, is a Sixth Form tutor, sings in the Staff Choir and always enjoys making a fool of herself in the Staff Karaoke.
